Entering maintenance menu of Nortel IP phones

When you are working with Nortel IP telephones for use with compatible VOIP enabled Nortel platforms the first thing that must be done is to get into the maintenance mode of the phone in order to establish the correct settings for the phone to connect to your system. This is generally done when you power the phone the first time because the button sequence to enter maintenance must be entered during a specific section of the boot process. There are times, however, when you will need to get back into the maintenance settings in order to change or optimize the functionality of the phone, and though you can power the phone down and up by disconnecting/reconnecting the power supply, it is easier and faster to do it with the re-boot button sequence.

The Nortel IP telephone Re-boot sequence is: MUTE, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, UP, MUTE, 9, RELEASE.

Changing the time on a Norstar Phone System

How to change the time on their Norstar Phone System.  The instructions are very easy and written below.

The programming needs to be done from a Norstar T7316E, Norstar M7310 or Norstar M7324.  If you require any of these phones has them all in stock.

To get into programming please do the following:

  1. Locate the  Feature Button (or Button with the Nortel Logo)
  2. Press Feature **266344 (The Star button is under the 7)
  3. The display will ask for a password.  Enter 23456
  4. You will see Terminals and Sets and two button on the right side of the phone will have lit up.  A button on the left will also have lit up.
  5. The top button on the right that has lit up is going to be labelled as SHOW.
  6. The second button on the right that has lit up is going to be labelled NEXT.
  7. When you see
  8. Press Next 5 times. (Top right button 5 times)
  9. Press SHOW. (Second right button once)
  10. When you see “Hour”, press “Change” on the display
  11. Type in the hour using military time as a 2 digit number.
  12. Press “NEXT”.
  13. When you see “Minutes”, press “Change”
  14. Type in the minutes using a 2 digit number.

That should allow you to change the Time on your Norstar Phone System.

Toshiba CIX Phone System & Emanager Programming

In order to Connect to a Toshiba CIX Phone System for programming purposes using Emanager, there are a few pre-programming steps that are necessary.

  1. Remove cover panel(s) from Toshiba CIX.
  2. Mount the  CIX onto backboard
  3. Locate and connect ports and connection points for, Ethernet, MOH, lines, and stations.
  4. Connect Ethernet patch cable to integrated NIC. Cable should be straight if coming from a hub, crossover if straight to laptop or network card.
  5. Connect lines and stations.
  6. Power up the unit.
  7. Reinstall cover panels to the unit chassis.

At least one Toshiba display phone is needed in order to configure IP settings for programming using the Emanager.

  1. On the display telephone, enter programming with command [hold] *#*#1*2*3*  password defaults as 0000. go to program 916
  2. Three buttons will light up. These are locations for IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. Using the speaker key, you must change the IP address to one that is within your network range (or change your range to be compatible with the CIX)
  3. Find a comfortable location to work that has network capability.
  4. Install CTX Emanager onto your workstation.
  5. Make sure your default web browser is Internet Explorer, and that the pop up blocker is disabled.
  6. Double click on the Emanager Icon on your desktop.
  7. the default user name is “administrator”, and its password is available in your documentation.
  8. Open “Emanager Profile”, and click on “Equipment editor”
  9. Create a profile for your system IP address and Community (The default community name is “communityName” (case sensitive) and IP address is whatever you changed it to within your network range.)
  10. Under “Emanager Profile” click on “Classes Setup”
  11. Move the profile from the right “Not Assigned” to the left “Assigned” column.
  12. Open “Select Equipment” and choose your profile.
  13. Click on the connect button, when the system connects Start Programming!

Programming Night Service on a Nortel CICS and Nortel MICS Phone System

To immediately redirect calls to the Call Pilot automated attendant, or to an alternate extension,  manually program  a ringing services button on the attendant set. When the button is pressed, the lines will be redirected. Press the button again and they return to normal service.

First you will need to create a ringing group, assign the ringing service to manual control, and assign the attendant extension location to be the control set.

1.    Press feature 985, Write down the extension shown. This is the first port of your voicemail. (for an alternate extension or hunt group, substitute the appropriate DN)

2.    Enter configuration programming in your system

3.    Your display will read TERMINALS & SETS, Press Next until it reads SERVICES

4.    Press Show, The display will read RINGING SERVICES, press Show, The display will read RINGING GROUP.

5.    Enter 001 for the Ringing Group, press Show.

6.    At the SHOW SET prompt, press the SCAN soft key. Extension 221 is assigned to every group by default. UNASSIGN extension 221.

7.    Press Find. At the SHOW SET prompt enter the extension designation which you wrote down at step 1. This is the ONLY extension that should be assigned.

8.    Press Heading until your display reads RINGING GROUP. Press next, your display will read SCHEDULE:NIGHT. Press Show.

9.    Service is defaulted to OFF. Change this setting to MANUAL.

10.    Press Next to confirm that TRUNK ANSWER is at the default setting of YES.

11.    Press Heading until you have returned to SERVICES, press Show, the display will read RINGING SERVICES, press Next until you see COMMON SETTINGS. Press Show.

12.    The display will read CONTROL SETS, press Show, the display will read FOR LINES. Press Show.

13.    Change the control set for every line that you want to be redirected to the main attendant set. This set is where you will program the ringing services button.

14.    Press Release.

15.    Go to the attendant set and press Feature * 3. Press an available button and assign Feature 871. This is now the Ringing Services button.

Norstar callpilot 100/150 Data BACKUP & RESTORE

The Norstar CallPilot Voice Mail has a utility that allows you to back up Voicemail Data.

It’s always a good idea to back up your Phone systems data and/or voice mail data and configuration periodically, no matter what type of  system you are using. The following is a quick description on how to backup/restore a Norstar Callpilot.

To run the BACKUP/RESTORE utility on a Norstar callpilot 100/150

  1. Install backup restore utility onto your computer desktop from Norstar callpilot CD.
  2. Connect to callpilot using crossover cable to the Ethernet port.
  3. The default IP address of a callpilot is
  4. Make sure that the IP range of your computer/laptop is compatible with the IP range of the callpilot.
  5. Initialize Internet Explorer and type the IP address of your callpilot into the URL field. The callpilot interface should come up with a prompt for the password (the second part of your SM login)
  6. Enter the SM password.
  7. The main callpilot interface menu will come up. Click on OPERATIONS
  8. Click on BACKUP/RESTORE
  9. A screen will open explaining that the callpilot will be placed in a special mode. Click CONTINUE
  10. A new window will open, click CLOSE
  11. Internet Explorer will close. Initialize callpilot BACKUP/RESTORE tool that you installed onto your desktop in step 1.
  12. Set the tool for BACKUP, and input a file name for the backup.
  13. Run the utility

Your Nortel callpilot Voicemail information is backed up and can be restored to the unit the same way, just change the settings in step 12 to RESTORE.

Changing the Time on Avaya Partner Phone Systems

Every time Daylight Savings starts or ends we get a lot of people asking us how to change the time on their Partner Phone Systems.  The instructions are very easy and written below.

On the Partner System all programming has to be done from Extension # 10. This is usually the receptionist extension.  Please check the display to make sure that the extension states 10.  If you require a display phone such as the Avaya Partner 18 Display they can be purchased over here.

  1. With the handset on the cradle do the following.
  2. Press the FEATURE button
  3. Enter 00 (Zero, Zero) to get into programming
  4. Press the left intercom key twice. (2 times)
  5. Enter #103 (The # key is located under the 9 key)
  6. Enter the time in a 24 hour format.  HHMM where HH is hours and MM is minutes. (Example 1025 would be 10:25 AM)
  7. Press the FEATURE button
  8. Enter 00 (zero,zero)

The new time will show on your phone system.

Cisco IP Phone Repair

CISCO Phone Repair

Comtech has an in-house repair department that has factory certified technician who do board level repair on phone equipment. All repaired phones + equipment carry a full One year warranty against any repaired defect and come back fully refurbished.

Recently Comtech started repairing Cisco phones.  We repair the entire line of Cisco phones.

All Cisco phones are repaied in-house.  Our repair cost covers all aspects of the phone repair except the LCD screen.  If the LCD screen is damaged we charge an additional $65.00 for the LCD repair.

When you send in a Cisco Phone for repair the phone is put through a three step process.

1. Our Technician diagnose the problems on the phone and set about repairing the phone.

2. The entire phone is taken apart for cleaning so that we can make sure that we return it back to you looking like new.

3. The re-assembled phone is tested again to back up our One year warranty.

All repaired Cisco Phones are returned with new cords.

Handsets can be added if missing at a nominal charge of $10.00.

All repaired phones carry a One Year Warranty.
